Great Book for Networking Foundations

This book is a great book to read to get a good foundation on networking. The book is clear, concise, complete, and of small size in covering network essentials. I have read some other good rated network books and the problem I had with those books was that the authors would throw network jargons that they would not explain well or not at all. In this book the author defines every technical terminology he mentions. Also the author uses illustrations and everyday life analogies to make the subject easy to understand. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for clarity in computer networking foundations.

Rock It Out!

I passed my exam within three weeks of study, using only this book. The book is easy to understand and most of the chapters are short. Some of the labs in the book don't require Window's Sever 2008 R2 (Which I don't have access). 80% of them can be done using Window's 7. A great first stepping stone for networking.

Good enough for Network+ too

I am an IT instructor. This book is great. Buy it and you will like it. It is well written, has color illustrations and is clear but concise. Highly recommend it to anyone. I am using it to teach Network+. Covers all but a few topic such as structured cabling.

About the Author

Seth Allcorn, is the former Vice President for Business and Finance at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. He has served as a financial and administrative Assistant Dean at the Texas Tech School of Medicine and Associate Dean for the Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola–Chicago.

Howard F. Stein is Professor Emeritus of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City, OK, he taught from 1978-2012. Dr. Stein is also a Research Associate of the Center for the Study of Organizational Change at the University of Missouri.

Great Book

It is revealing that the phrase "dysfunctional workplace" turns up so many titles on Amazon and thousands of hits on Google. Toxic work environments are obviously a serious problem, and people are looking for answers. This book is a very good place to start. It includes dozens of enlightening stories from the Dark Side of work. These vignettes are framed with psychoanalytic concepts like "splitting" and "transference" that reveal common underlying patterns to different organizational pathologies. The writing is clear and concise, and the book is educational and enjoyable to read. I would definitely recommend it for anyone struggling to understand how organizations go bad.

About the Author
Alephonsion and Benson Deng and their cousin Benjamin Ajak left the Sudan in 1987, and were relocated in 2001 from the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya to the United States as part of an international refugee relief program. Today, Alephonsian Deng attends San Diego City College and works in the Medical Records Department at Kaiser Permanente Hospital. He has spoken to many schools, universities, clubs and organizations about his extraordinary story in Africa and adapting to his life here in America. Benson Deng runs the computer and digital photography system at Waste Management in El Cajon, CA. Benjamin Ajak resides in San Diego and speaks full time to organizations and schools, sharing his amazing life and insights into surviving as a child of war and a newcomer to the U.S. Judy Bernstein is a mother, writer, Student Advisor for the Community Economic Development Department at San Diego State University, volunteer mentor and Chair of the Advisory Committee of the San Diego International Rescue Committee and co-founder of the IRC Lost Boys Education Fund. She speaks with her co-authors to community groups, temples, churches, and schools.

How children survived an adult mess

In a land where family life was everything and the most fearsome thing was a prowling hyena or lion, fire suddenly exploded from the sky. THEY POURED FIRE ON US FROM THE SKY is the vivid description of the war in southern Sudan as seen through the eyes of three little boys, Benson, Benjamin and Alephonsion - who suddenly became homeless orphans and were forced to trek across Sudan to Kenya and Ethiopia without food or water. No longer having a father to frighten away the animals or a mother to prepare food, these five-year-old boys had to figure out how to survive. In addition to the horrors brought on by nature in the form of heat, no water, no food, hunting animals, biting snakes and insects, they soon discovered that people were not very nice to boys traveling alone. Frequently their food, clothing and blankets were taken from them or they were beaten and driven away. Even their own soldiers mistreated them and they found that after surviving so much and traveling so far, they were not exactly welcome in Kenya or Ethiopia. But survive they did to come to the United States to begin life anew.

This gut-wrenching book is a real page-turner and I found myself unable to put it down, even when the stories brought tears and indescribable anger. It was a real eye-opener to read of United Nations aid gone astray as locals took the best for themselves and left the refugees starving. There were, of course, the good people who helped the refugees with food and transportation and even lost their jobs because of it. If you never believed that war could change ordinary people into selfish monsters, then this is the book for you. The book is well written, flows well, and the transitions are so smooth that sometimes I found myself going back to the beginning of the chapter to see which lost boy was telling this particular portion of the story. There were amusing sections such as when the boys were preparing to go the US and they were attempting to learn about flushing toilets. One of them didn't remember what the book instructions said and managed to flood the restroom at the airport terminal. The things we take for granted get a new life when viewed through these boys' eyes. I recommend this book for everyone in America.

It will transform you

This is a book that I was afraid would be too painful to read. Most of us will never have the experience that these 3 young men and their "brothers" have had. But it is not about pain and sorrow. It is ultimately about Hope, Family, Education and their faith in God to get them through. This is a book that will surprise you, engage you and enrage you. Thank you , Judy Bernstein and everyone who knew this story needed to be told!

Couldn't put it down

As a former NFL player, I thought I was tough. But when I read what these young boys overcame, it made me appreciate what life is really about. A friend recommended the book and after I started it, I couldn't put it down until I finished it the next morning. Their triumph over all odds is uplifting. After the tragic events of recent days, this is a must read for all to learn about the strength of the human spirit.

This is one of if not the best books I have ever read. I work in customer service and have to deal with a lot I mean a lot of rude people and stressful situations and this book has helped me so much deal with a lot of the issues I face everyday. Honestly I would buy this again and again because it's that good. I read it in a matter of days and will go back through it again very soon. Would recommend

Ahmed's tragedy aligns with Bahrain's experience of the Arab Spring

This is a fantastic format for investigative journalism. I think of myself as a person who pays attention to the news, but struggles a little to keep track of the specific events in the Middle East. The Arab Spring sits in my mind as a set of dominos, one tipping another, but I have trouble remembering which domino is which and how it looks now.
Fortunately, now that I've read this book I can remember Bahrain and keep it straight from the others. The personal tragedy of Ahmed aligns well with the historical facts and perspective. Its a great story - though one with a sad and unfinished ending. As a teacher I'm encouraging my colleagues to use it in their instruction of the Arab Spring. Its length and approachability make it perfect for guiding students to understand the events of the past two years, as well the historical context.

A riveting true story of a young citizen jounalist killed in Bharain. Well written and arranged to keep the reader interested and wanting to know how it ends. A must read story that gives a real face to a tragic situation.
